Machining is a process in which a work piece is cut via tools to a desired final form and dimension by a controlled material-removal process.

1. What is Machining?
Machining is a manufacturing process that creates the desired form by removing small chips of material from the work piece. Machining is carried out by CNC machinery where computers manage the operation of the tools to increase efficiency and reduce costs by automation.
2. Types of machining
There are many kinds of machining operations, each of which generating a certain shape and surface finish.
- Turning
Turning involves rotating the work piece on the machine while a single cutting tool is used to remove the material. The cutting tool chips away material by slowly moving in the direction of work piece’s rotational axis.
- Drilling
Drilling creates a round hole by a rotating tool that typically has two or four helical cutting edge. The formed hole is equal to the diameter of the tool.
- Milling
Milling is a type of machining using rotary tools to chip away material by moving a cutter into a work piece. This may be done on multiple axis and directions. It is one of the most frequently used processes for machining custom parts to stiff tolerances from small parts to large, heavy duty work pieces.
